I’m so excited to be sharing this Rimmel stay matte liquid lipstick review with you all, as I feel like it has taken a while for drugstore companies to come out with liquid lipsticks that really compete with the high end ones we’ve been using for the past year. Rimmel have just come out with an array of matte liquid lipsticks and I’m so excited to share with you my thoughts so far after using them for a few weeks.
They’ve come out with 14 shades in total, and I was lucky enough to be sent 5 of the shades to test for myself and share a Rimmel stay matte liquid lipstick review with you! All of the products are now available in Superdrug, Boots and on Feel Unique.
Before I discuss the shades in particular, I just wanted to talk about the applicator. It’s a doe foot applicator that thins at the end to make applying the lipstick so easy which is essential to get a precise finish! I absolutely love lining my lips first and then fill in with the colour with this wand and it makes applying the lipstick so easy regardless of your makeup ability.
(Shades listed from left to right in relation to the below image)
Pitch Black: I have no idea when I am going to wear a dark, black lip however the colour even after just one swatch is so opaque. I think a colour like this could look beautiful with a shimmery lip topper for a dramatic lip for a night out and I’m definitely going to give that a try. I thought this colour would be patchy but it isn’t at all; it’s a smooth colour that goes on to lips so evenly. I would recommend if you’re looking for a dark lip for the autumn/winter.
Midnight: This is a lovely purple lipstick with a nice burgundy undertone, it’s screaming Autumn to me, and definitely my favourite colour from the whole collection. It does apply a little patch unfortunately but you can get an even coverage after 2 or 3 layers. I’ve worn this all day long and it lasted 8 hours straight without fading – definitely recommend if you’re a berry-toned lipstick lover like I am!
Tip: use a matching lipliner underneath to prevent the lipstick from appearing patchy after application.
Be My Baby: Is this not the perfect pink/mauve-toned nude lipstick?! I am in love with this shade and can see myself reaching for it a lot during the summer for both those ‘no makeup, makeup’ days as well as paired with a dramatic eye to ensure balance in the makeup look. All of the lipsticks have a thick consistency (really creamy and mouse-like) and the below swatches are just one swipe of the product but they dry down a really comfortable matte on the lips that then become waterproof and transfer-proof. Amazing from a lip colour that costs under £6 in my opinion!
Coral Sass: I wish I could get away with wearing shades this dramatic but I just can’t see myself reaching for this one unfortunately. If you love coral shades and having an electric colour on the lips then by all means this is the shade for you! I can’t believe how neon in colour it looks – I’ve not seen anything like it before in a liquid lip product. I’m sure I’ll have a friend that will own this colour.
Latte To Go: The final shade to talk about in this Rimmel stay matte liquid lipstick review. This is a lovely light, cool toned colour. For me, it’s a little lighter than I’d usually wear but pair this with Be My Baby in the middle of the lips to give a little more definition – you have a winner! This is again a very opaque colour that is made for all nude lipstick fans that want a high pigmented colour that looks like their lips, but better.
The wear time of these liquid lipsticks are also fantastic and definitely perform the same as some of my favourite high end liquid lips, such as Gerard Cosmetics and Limecrime but apply just like a NYX Soft Matte lip cream (is this not the best of both worlds here?). If you’re still into the matte liquid lipstick phase I’d definitely recommend you pick them up to try out for yourself – you won’t be disappointed! (Plus Superdrug and Boots often have 3 for 2 deals making them even cheaper than their £5.99 price tag – amazing!)
They are completely transfer-proof, don’t rub off when I eat/drink and with such an amazing colour selection from dark blacks and navy blues to cool toned nudes and vibrant corals, I think Rimmel have really stepped up the game! THese are great to wear both at work and on a night out, and the quality is honestly shocking, and that’s coming from a liquid lipstick snob!
All in all, this Rimmel stay matte liquid lipstick review is completely positive, my only complaint is that Midnight needed to be layered to achieve a non-patch finish, but I can’t fault them other than that.
Which colours will you be picking up? Have you given them a try for yourself yet? Let me know if you love them just as much as I do!
