I love wearing lightweight foundations in the summer, which is what drew me to the MAC face & body foundation. I picked this up from Selfridges and couldn’t wait to try it out. Continue reading to see my thoughts and opinions on one of MAC’s less raved foundations.
First Impressions: Firstly, this MAC face & body foundation is a 120ml bottle – I expected the price to be about £50-ish, however it was merely £29.50. I paid £9.99 for my 30ml L’Oreal True Match foundation so I thought this was great value with four times as much product in it, it was also available in a 50ml size for £22 but I say go large for £7.50 more! The range of colours was excellent, being the same shades as the L’Oreal True Match so I knew exactly what shade I was – the palest which is C1. If you’re unsure, there are many sales assistants that are happy to colour match you. Using the Selfridges MAC counter, the staff were a little rude however it was absolutely rammed but a smile does go a long way! With the size, price and promise of the product fitting exactly into what it is I want from a foundation I was eager to get it home and play around with it. I hate wearing heavy make-up when everywhere feels like a sauna so hopefully this help me achieve a flawless look when the weather hits boiling point.
Using the Product: I’ve learnt that the lighter the foundation, the more watery the product. This is very watery however very blendable. I began applying a light base with my Real Techniques foundation brush (p.s. they’re a perfect match) and adding an additional layer on those areas where I wanted a little more coverage, I’d say the maximum coverage it can build is medium and definitely not the foundation to go for if you want full coverage. The thing to do next is very important – wait a while for it to set. With it being a little watery, the MAC face & body foundation takes a little longer to dry than other foundations on the market, I give it around three minutes and ready for the next step! The MAC face & body foundation left a very dewy finish which helped to make my skin look moisturised and healthy however I would not recommend it for those with really oily skin. My skin is more of a dry/shiny combination so it is perfect in lightening it up and making my skin look really healthy but I can only image oily skin would find this more of a nightmare. I then applied a small amount of powder on to prevent shine and got on with my day. Throughout the day I loved wearing it as it didn’t feel like I had foundation on but knew my face wasn’t without it. it helped show off my freckles and help me catch the sun without looking caked on which I loved. I’d say it lasted a good 8/9 hours on and only then did I notice fading around my nose and T zone. It took a little getting used to as all of my foundations are a higher coverage but for the summer this is perfect and will be the perfect foundation for holidays too – thank you MAC!
The MAC face & body foundation has a great little nozzle so no need to have to purchase a foundation pump like Studio Fix. It blends amazingly with minimal effort too with both different brushes and make-up sponges and all finishes look amazing. It’s everything I wanted from a summer base!
