Fun Ways To Play With Your Appearance

When it comes to style and taste it’s easy to end up stuck in a rut. Sometimes is a ‘mom bun’ that lasts for years, other times it is a tee and jeans style that makes nights out feel complicated and confusing. Other times we just want to spice up our appearance and experiment. It might be permanent, it might be temporary but here is a couple of things you can do to play around with how you look.

Hair is a really fun way to experiment and change how you look without too much effort. The best thing is that if you really don’t like what you’ve done, you can change it. And, hair grows back – eventually.

If you want to change something but aren’t ready for colours then think about getting bangs/a fringe cut in. They’re easy to pin back when you start to grow it out again if you didn’t fall in love with it and many people feel that you can knock years off them.

If you’ve got curly hair, you can try and straighten it and with straight hair try a perm.

Having a few inches trimmed off the ends of your hair can make a massive difference as well as keeping your hair healthy. If that isn’t enough, then go for a significant change like a pixie cut or a lob (long bob). If you’re not ready for the chop – try hair extensions.

If you’re really wanting to play around, then check out brands like Arctic Fox, Renbow and Bleach London for cool colours. You don’t have to bleach your hair first if you want something subtle and can choose a 9-12 wash shade.

Changing your hair up can often make a massive impact in a matter of hours and really change how we feel.

Piercings and Tattoos

This one gets a mixed reception; however, it’s way more popular and accepted nowadays. If you want something that you can remove if you fall out of love with it, then a piercing is a great choice.

Popular piercings are:

Ears – lobes are popular, with a variety of different jewellery options. Helix (top of ear cartilage is also very popular. A stud or hoop is often worn there. In recent years the daith has become really popular as some believe it relieves migraines. Lobes are relatively, but cartilage make hurt.

Tongue – Apparently pretty pain-free to have done but swelling and some pain in the following weeks. Tongue bars come in many shapes and sizes, and there is something for everyone.

Nose – The last few years has seen a rise in the septum piercing. Which is easy to hide, and the jewellery rage is super cute. Nostrils are one of the most common piercings to have, with studs and hoops available.

Tattoos are pretty cool too. While not everyone likes them, and it is a bit of a commitment, you can have something meaningful to you added to your body forever. While it is probably best to avoid having names on you, there is no reason you shouldn’t get other stuff you like.

Your piercer or tattoo artist will be able to give you directions to keep it clean and looked after, and may even be able to help with designs and placements.

If you are usually a zero make-up user, it might be time to invest in an eyeshadow palette, cc cream and a nude lipstick. It takes a little work to get really good, but a quick swipe of a flattering colour on your lids and an even fresh looking complexion can do wonders for how you feel.

If you are already a bit of a wiz with getting a natural look, it might be time to turn it up a notch and experiment with colours and textures. Contouring isn’t as complicated as it sounds, and it doesn’t need to be as severe as some YouTubers will have you believe. Metallics and foil eyeshadows are a lot of fun to play with, and you can be as subtle or as bright as you like.

They say that red lipstick can make a person feel like they can take over the world. So it might just be time to set out to find your perfect shade. Red feels like a power colour, and some people get a little bit nervous wearing it, but once you find the one you love it has transformative powers.

Having fun with how you look can have a significant impact on how you feel, and sometimes it is precisely what we need to get a little boost. And while not everything is about appearances, when we feel good it shows!
